{Spotlight Project} Maria Experiments with Stencils and Glitter and Paste

Hello again friends! Nice to be here with you this Thanksgiving week. You may remember this Spotlight where I experimented with stencils and glitter on adhesive sheets. Today I am experimenting with a stencil, some embossing paste and glitter. Here's what happened.

STEP 1
I gathered some pink, red and green Distress Inks and sponge daubers. I taped down my Oh My Stars stencil and sponged the colors onto cardstock.

STEP 2
I used my heat tool to dry the ink. Then I put the stencil down again and applied clear embossing paste over it. TIP: I applied the paste "row by row" to avoid smearing any ink colors, since the ink reactivates a bit when wet.

STEP 3
I removed the stencil carefully and sprinkled clear glitter over the wet embossing paste. Tapped off the excess.

STEP 4
The toughest step... let the panel dry.

STEP 5
While it was drying, I die cut a vellum star and silver heat embossed my sentiment from Holiday Sketches: Christmas Bells. TIP: I use a piece of cardboard wrapped in aluminum foil for heat embossing. I aim the heat gun at it while it's warming up and that heat warms the piece I am embossing from the reverse while I heat the front. Helps prevent the powder from blowing away when the hot air hits it.

STEP 6
Assemble the card. I considered using the entire panel as a card front, but then decided to cut it diagonally and make two cards. Here they are.

For the second card I used a light gray cardbase and a black heat embossed sentiment. I added a smaller die cut star (cut from white CS) behind the vellum heart. Hope you enjoyed today's twofer. Are you making your own Christmas cards this year?

TschĂĽss,
Maria

  1. Cool technique -- and I think cutting the piece diagonally and only use part of it was a brilliant decision.
Thanks for the tip about aluminum foil.

  2. Thank you for the tip for the clear embossing paste as it can re-active and spoil your work and for the tip on the aluminium foiled card and heat embossing. Both tips I will be using! Gorgeous cards, great techniques and getting two cards, a real winner x

Yes, I am mid-way through making my cards :-) - I mass produce my Christmas cards, the only time I do a mass production run.
