{Spotlight Project} Maria Spotlights Negative Space Again

Hi STAMPlorations peeps! Welcome to another Spotlight post inspired by the 2018 trend of "Negative Space"! Here's today's card. I love how by accentuating the negative space (background), the positive (images) really come to the forefront.

STEP 1
Gathered my supplies - stamp set,  Versamark ink, white embossing powder, aqua cardstock and watercolors. The second photo shows my inspiration - this time it was those blue and white images where the color is focused on the negative space, drawing attention to the white images.

STEP 2

Arranged and stamped the images on the cardbase.

STEP 3

Stamped more images on the left side of my cardbase. TIP: Turn your card (or MISTI as I did here) to accommodate stamps extending off the card edge but still make use of the corner for aligning.

STEP 4
Selected colors that I thought would work well on the aqua CS using the swatches inside the lid of my Gansai Tambis. Chose the teal and blue in the left column.

STEP 5

Not wanting to wet my CS too much I worked in thirds, wetting the panel, brushing in some teal around the images and then blue around/over that.

STEP 6
Spritzed the panel with Perfect Pearl mixture for some glimmer.

STEP 7

To add a bit more interest to the negative space I added some text too. TIP: Hold the stamp in your fingers and only apply ink to a small "curved" portion of the stamp to stamp into the small spaces between the butterflies. Gives you much better control.

Finished off my design with a sentiment heat embossed onto a die cut I attached with twine.  For an extra touch I stamped a butterfly on the die cut too before embossing the sentiment!

Remember if you try out any of the techniques, like negative die cutting, from our Spotlight posts hook up your project at our Spotlight Project Showcase
